Stock and Bond Investing

Twenty years ago, no one would have believed that the behemoth companies of our country could go under. Even during the stock market downturn in the late 1980s, the market analysts believed that oil companies, electronics manufacturers, automobile manufacturers and large insurance companies would be around forever. Today we know we were wrong!

If you invest in stock market trades today you can find some great deals. But remember you are not exempt from the volatility of today’s market. If you have some money to spare, and you can make wise stock market picks, you can wait until the stocks soar and then sell. The trick is, of course, to make wise stock market picks. In a world where even the most experienced stock market analysts are scratching their heads, there is little dependable advice.

Invest in a diverse group of industries and try to anticipate areas for growth like companies who product alternate sources of fuel or research companies responsible for providing energy alternatives and the technology to support those alternatives. Perhaps you see the future in mass transit. Bond investment is not as volatile as the stock market. During stock market downturns, bonds and low-interest investments will give you a dependable, if modest, return. But at least you won’t lose money!

The current market is difficult to predict and stock investing is not for the faint of heart. Eventually the NASDAQ will moderate and stock market trading will be less of a gamble. Like today’s real estate market, today’s stock market offers may opportunities to get in on the ground floor. But you have to have the money to invest and the stomach to wait out the downturn. If you are not financially stable, don’t gamble with the money you have in the bank or under your mattress. Now is not the time to take a risk! If you do have a little money to invest, seek the advice of a financial advisor and let them know what level of risk you are willing to take.
